About
Meet Dr. Wayne Stephens, L.Ac., DAOM
Board Certified Acupuncturist | Certified in SAAT | Founder of The Wellness Tree Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic
For Dr. Wayne Stephens, acupuncture is more than a profession—it is the culmination of a lifelong interest in health, movement, performance, and the remarkable ability of the human body to restore balance.
A Chattanooga native, Dr. Stephens has spent much of his life exploring the connection between physical health, mental well-being, and personal development. His path to Chinese medicine was not originally a conventional one. As a young man, he pursued athletics and initially studied engineering before an experience with acupuncture through his father opened the door to an entirely different way of understanding health and healing.
That experience ultimately led him to pursue formal training in Traditional Chinese Medicine and earn his Master’s degree from Five Branches University. Becoming a Board-Certified Acupuncturist and Licensed in Tennessee. He later completed his Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Five Branches University in San Jose, California.
Today,
Dr. Wayne Stephens, L.Ac., DAOM, Board Certified Acupuncturist, certified in SAAT, is the founder of
The Wellness Tree Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he has been helping patients improve their health and quality of life since 2007.

A Whole-Person Approach to Health
Dr. Stephens believes that health is rarely about treating one isolated symptom. The body functions as an interconnected system, and lasting wellness often requires looking deeper at the patterns contributing to pain, inflammation, stress, digestive problems, hormonal changes, allergies, poor sleep, fatigue, and other chronic concerns. His approach combines the time-tested principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern clinical knowledge and individualized patient care.
Treatment plans may incorporate acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional and lifestyle recommendations, cupping, light therapy, supplements, and other supportive therapies depending on the needs of each patient. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Stephens works to understand the individual behind the symptoms.
Extensive Experience in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine
Over the years, Dr. Stephens has developed a particular interest in helping patients with:
- Neck, shoulder, back, hip, and joint pain
- Alpha Gal
- Sciatica and nerve-related discomfort
- Headaches and migraines
- Sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions
- Stress, anxiety, and nervous system regulation
- Digestive and gut-related concerns
- Hormonal balance and women's health
- Menopause and perimenopause support
- Fertility and reproductive health
- Allergies and histamine-related concerns
- Neuropathy
- Sleep difficulties
- Fatigue and overall wellness
- Healthy aging and maintaining quality of life
His clinical style draws from multiple acupuncture traditions, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Master Tung acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, and other advanced techniques. Dr. Stephens is also Certified in Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT), a specialized auricular acupuncture technique that has become an important part of his work with individuals seeking support for allergy-related concerns, including Alpha-gal.
Traditional Medicine for Modern Life
While modern healthcare often focuses on identifying and managing individual diseases, Traditional Chinese Medicine asks an additional question:
Why has the body lost its balance in the first place? Dr. Stephens believes the two perspectives can complement one another.
Chinese medicine offers a sophisticated framework for understanding relationships between digestion, circulation, sleep, stress, emotions, energy, pain, hormones, and overall vitality. Modern science provides additional insight into physiology, neurology, inflammation, nutrition, and human performance. At The Wellness Tree, these perspectives come together in a practical approach designed to help each patient move toward better health.
More Than Acupuncture
Dr. Stephens' philosophy of health extends beyond the treatment room. He has practiced Qi Gong and Kung Fu for more than two decades, disciplines that have strongly influenced his understanding of movement, breath, energy, discipline, and longevity. He also believes that emotional health is inseparable from physical health. Stress, unresolved emotions, lifestyle, relationships, nutrition, movement, sleep, and mindset can all influence how we feel. For this reason, his approach encourages patients not simply to chase symptoms, but to build healthier patterns that support the body, mind, and spirit.
It is a philosophy that has become central to what he calls The Tao of The Wellness Tree—the idea that genuine wellness is not a destination but an ongoing process of creating greater balance in our lives.
Chattanooga Roots
Dr. Stephens is proud to call Chattanooga home and to serve the community where he grew up. When he is away from the clinic, he enjoys staying active, practicing Qi Gong and martial arts, playing vintage baseball, spending time outdoors, and fly fishing.
After nearly two decades in practice, his enthusiasm for Chinese medicine remains rooted in something very simple: helping people feel better and showing them that there may be more possibilities for improving their health than they previously realized.
